DESCRIPTION
Michael Baker International is seeking an experienced “Solutions Architect” as part of its IT organization. This position can be based in any location or can also be “remote” with occasional travel as needed. The Solutions Architect will act as “strategic designer and planner of technology solutions”. The person will be responsible for critically evaluating the business requirements, determining best-fit architecture and technology solutions to address business requirements, and guide the development team in implementing the solution. Successful candidate will pay close attention to aligning its solutions with IT Strategy, business goals, existing technology landscape, technology advancements in the industry, and user experience in designing the solution.
The ability to form strong relationships with stakeholders, proactively manage risk, and facilitating high performing teams are essential in this role.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Technology:
Responsible for making enterprise-wide technology recommendations and support in designing and implementing enterprise grade application systems to drive in accordance with various IT and business strategies.
Assess existing technology ecosystem and develop a reference architecture, and roadmap for the technology deployment collaboratively with business and IT leaders.
Act as a coach for business and IT stakeholders in socializing, formalizing and governing the solution architecture
Establish standards for design and development techniques for solutions
Partner with Business and IT leaders to drive business process and requirements into strategic designs
Lead the research and proof-of-concepts for various existing and emerging technologies.
Work closely with various IT teams to achieve the architecture and deployment objectives for various technologies.
Work closely with the business process owners, business analysts, and business solution leads for the due diligence on the technology assessment process.
Promotes compliance to application architecture standard / principles and frameworks.
Actively participate in the technologies governance process and support technology deployment projects as necessary.
Support GRC (Governance, Risk, Compliance) aspects of technologies.
Maintain the software and service technologies roadmap for business functions.
Do, lead, mentor, and coach the challenging phases of the projects
Analytics:
Minimize technical exposure and risk on projects
Involved in evaluation of third-party software solutions
Proactively identify and address application architecture strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.
Customer Experience:
Work closely with business process owners, business and IT leaders and project teams during scope development and analysis phases.
Work closely with multiple business functions to leverage technologies and creation of innovative digital products and services.
Translate business requirements into high level technical / system requirements
Collaborate with project team to manage client expectations, and confirm that solutions meet those expectations
Define and implement technical solutions to department quality standards.
People/Resource Management:
Act as a partner consultant to the project team and be responsible to assess task quality and provide ongoing feedback to project members.
Collaborate across the IT organization to define and apply enterprise level standards in solution architecture
Lead/assist internal and external development teams to understand strategic goals/objectives and translate into architectures and designs
Actively participate and contribute in IT governance bodies and work with development leads, architects and/or support teams to lead solution efforts.
Stay curious in understanding customer priorities and technology possibilities
Project Management:
Advise on project scope development and options analysis (internal and external research)
Participate in the creation of project plans, timelines, milestones, goals and ownership
Complete and implement projects on time
Ensure all tasks and projects are executed to department quality standards.
Maintain knowledge of organizational structure to facilitate groups outside of the immediate technical team.
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications
A minimum of 10 years of software development
A minimum of 3 years as a Software Development Lead
A minimum of 3 years as a Designer or Architect where leadership capabilities have been demonstrated on multiple mission critical systems
A bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics, engineering, operations, management, or a related field is preferred, or equivalent experience.
Significant knowledge of areas of software engineering, software architecture, data architecture, systems architecture, and data management required.
A solid understanding of key digital technology trends and vendor landscape
Development experience with Node.js, Java, or Python
Knowledge in technologies related to RPA, ML, AR, VR, IoT, blockchain
Knowledge of current application development trends, technologies, techniques and best practices required
Experience in Azure Cloud or AWS Cloud, Cloud Engineering, Cloud Architecture.
Experience in architecting Cloud Native Applications, REST APIs, Content Management Systems, Web Analytics, Marketing Analytics, etc.
COMPENSATION
The salary range for this position is $93,017 - $232,659. This will be dependent on the experience and expertise of the incoming candidate
