The SAP Basis Specialist role is based in Irving, Texas and reports directly to the IT Team Manager – Digital Workplace.
The SAP Basis Specialist administers and supports a set of SAP environments which fulfil the business needs, whilst ensuring those services are cost-efficient, reliable, stable, scalable, and secure. Propose and develop solutions based on these services utilizing the different environments and release management systems.
The SAP Basis Specialist will be responsible for ensuring the SAP environment is maintained to a high standard to ensure availability for critical business processing. Tasks will include Installations, Upgrades, Monitoring, Tuning and Troubleshooting of the environment. Further requirements include liaising with the architecture team in Europe to ensure regional requirements are fed into the product roadmap and that the service fits, or exceeds, the business needs and provides the necessary level of integration with other services.
The SAP Basis Specialist is responsible, in conjunction with the application architect, to transition operational services to the Global Operations (GOPs) team where possible. If there are areas, where service ownership cannot be fully transitioned to GOPs then these will be identified, and a plan developed to address such situations.

- Indirectly preferred familiarity of other Application Hosting technologies within One I.T. Infrastructure in the following areas:
- Server Virtualization (VMWare)
- Server environment including Application and F&P servers
- Own and / or contribute to SAP projects to ensure a smooth transition into the live environment, deliver on time and to budget e.g. new group or country specific applications / services, integration of acquired companies, new site installations, introduction of new applications or development of Infrastructure services.
- Be the point of escalation for incidents from Country Service Desks into 3rd line groups as necessary (Core Service Desk, Service Owners or Solution Design).
- Ensure service performance meets or exceeds business expectations and is delivered in accordance with SLAs.
- Serve as a focal point in terms of providing guidance and direction in relation to operations for their specialist area.
- Uses ITIL and quality management technologies to continuously monitor and improve IT processes.
- Document SAP application landscapes facilitate transition of knowledge and drive transition of operational support activities to the relevant groups. Produce support documentation (to be stored in the Global Knowledge Base).
- Working with the appropriate IT units, contribute to a gradual decline in the number of IT incidents through effective Incident and Problem Management. Contribute to root cause analysis and problem reviews.
Essential Experience and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Sciences or a minimum of 10 years I.T. experience in a large technical environment (or the ability to demonstrate a depth of understanding of the relevant technologies equivalent to that which such experience would provide).
- Excellent communication skills, customer focused, and service orientated.
- Possess the ability to articulate and to communicate well in English (verbally and written) with all levels of management throughout the organization and develop business partnerships.
- Excellent interpersonal skills required; able to work well in the overall team.
- Awareness of the importance of SLA’s and Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s); experience of performing in line with documented SLA’s.
- Solid understanding of how IT infrastructure components support the business.
- Pro-active, analytical and methodical working style with the ability to troubleshoot complex software problems.
- Must have experience identifying and implementing technology solutions.
- Awareness of IT support processes (Incident, Problem, Change and Configuration Management, ITIL).
- SAP technical certifications for Basis Administration preferred.
