Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform nursing assessments on all clients admitted to the facility and document according to policy and procedures
- Monitor all clients who may be going through detox including but not limited to taking vital signs and performing CIWAS and COWS and reporting findings to the physician or ARNP/PA
- Transcribe all medication orders given verbally or in writing by the physician or ARNP/PA
- Administer medication as ordered and monitor for any adverse effects
- Complete first dose monitoring on all clients being given a medication for the first time
- Provide psychiatric nurse practitioner services as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Attend daily clinical treatment team meetings
- Review all laboratory and diagnostic tests and report to physician when warranted
- Facilitate clients obtaining consultations as ordered by the physician or ARNP/PA
- Assist in data collection including infection control data, drug levels, chart audits, performance improvement data and any other data being collected for client care or performance improvement
- Maintain working knowledge of pharmacology including drug interactions, reactions, and detox
- Refer clients for emergency care when deemed necessary
- Attend monthly medical staff meetings and provide in-service training to staff
- Provide education to clients on medication and medical issues that impact this population including but not limited to HIV, Hepatitis, STD’s, and the importance of good hand hygiene
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of records
- Initiate and facilitate discharge planning and review all discharge documents with clients including but not limited to completing a medication reconciliation form at admission and discharge
- Ensure all clients have medications and/or prescriptions upon discharge if warranted

Requirements:Education and Experience:
- Diploma Degree in Nursing, Associate Degree in Nursing or Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing.
- Minimum of one year experience in a substance abuse and psychiatric treatment setting Preferred.
Requirements:
- Knowledge of chemical dependency disorders and mental health disorders
- Knowledge of alcohol and drugs commonly abuse, as well as, the physical, emotional, and psychological impact from abusing substances
- Knowledge of 12-Step Recovery Program
- Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws that regulate the treatment of alcoholism and drug addiction including confidentiality, patient rights, ethics, and discrimination
- Experience and skills in the use of electronic medical records (EMR)
- Possess compassion and empathy
- Knowledge of social and cultural influences that impact mental health
- Maintain all licenses and certifications as required of the position
