Bank of Montserrat Limited is seeking a dynamic, strategic, and results-driven professional to fill the position of Manager – Loans & Advances.

This is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the Bank’s lending operations, driving portfolio growth, maintaining strong credit quality standards, and ensuring effective risk management practices. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the General Manager in the achievement of the Bank’s strategic objectives while contributing to the continued development of Montserrat’s economy.

Key Objectives

The successful candidate will:

  • Provide strong support to the General Manager in the development, administration, and servicing of the Bank’s lending portfolio.
  • Assist the General Manager in the formulation of the Bank’s overall business strategies and in the design, implementation, development, and continuous improvement of systems, workflows, and procedures necessary to meet the requirements of both customers and the Bank.

The successful candidate will also be required to provide operational support to the General Manager as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lending Portfolio Management
  • Manage and oversee the Loans & Advances portfolio.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership and oversight of the Loans & Advances Department.
  • Evaluate and approve credit applications within delegated authority limits.
  • Prepare recommendations for adjudication by the General Manager or Board of Directors where required.
  • Ensure all lending activities comply with established policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

Strategy and Business Growth

  • Develop and implement lending strategies to achieve business growth targets.
  • Identify new business opportunities and strengthen relationships with existing and prospective clients.
  • Develop and enhance loan products to meet customer needs and support market growth.
  • Promote cross-selling opportunities across the Bank’s products and services.
  • Initiate and address opportunities to increase market share, revenue, and profitability in line with ECCB guidelines and the Bank’s strategic objectives.

Credit Risk Management

  • Monitor loan portfolio performance and identify emerging risks and trends.
  • Recommend and implement corrective actions to mitigate potential losses.
  • Develop and implement strategies to optimise credit processes and workflow efficiency.
  • Minimise operational and credit risks through sound lending practices.
  • Manage delinquency and recovery processes to reduce credit exposure and protect portfolio quality.

Leadership and Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the Loans & Advances team.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, professionalism, and exceptional customer service.
  • Support staff development through coaching, performance management, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Reporting and Compliance

  • Prepare management reports and portfolio analyses.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging banking trends, technologies, and regulatory developments.

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably a Master’s degree, in Finance, Banking, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in lending, financial statement analysis, credit risk management, and credit underwriting.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a supervisory or management role.
  • Strong knowledge of credit analysis, risk assessment, loan underwriting, and loan structuring.
  • Demonstrated understanding of emerging trends, technologies, and regulatory developments within the banking and financial services industry.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Professional banking or financial services certifications will be an asset.
  • Sound knowledge of banking products and services.
  • Good understanding of ECCB rules and regulations governing banking within the ECCU.
  • Proficiency in banking software applications and Microsoft Office Suite.
