The Bank of Montserrat Limited is seeking a dynamic and results-driven Senior Loans Officer to provide advanced support to the Manager – Loans & Advances in the development, administration, and servicing of the Bank’s lending portfolio. The successful candidate will oversee the origination, review, and administration of the loans portfolio in alignment with the Bank’s credit practices, procedures, and policies.
The successful candidate will:
(1) Provide advanced support to the Manager – Loans & Advances in the development, administration, and servicing of the lending portfolio, including oversight of loan origination, review, and administration in accordance with the Bank’s approved credit practices, procedures, and policies.
(2) Assist with the management of complex and high-value accounts, monitor the non-performing loan portfolio, and ensure compliance, integrity, and accuracy in the administration of poorly performing accounts. The Senior Loans Officer will also support the application of approved strategies to regularize accounts or initiate litigation where necessary.
Key Accountabilities
The successful candidate will:
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with new and existing clients, identifying customer financing needs and recommending suitable loan products.
- Originate, evaluate, and structure loan proposals, including the preparation of comprehensive credit memoranda and recommendations for approval.
- Analyze financial statements, credit reports, cash flow, collateral, and repayment capacity to support sound lending decisions.
- Make lending decisions within delegated authority or submit recommendations to the appropriate approval committee.
- Monitor loan performance, conduct periodic portfolio reviews, and proactively manage portfolio risk, including renewals, restructures, or corrective action where required.
Specific Duties
- Interview loan applicants and gather all required financial, collateral, and supporting documentation.
- Ensure that loan applications, approvals, documentation, and account records comply with internal lending policies and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with underwriting, legal, compliance, and operations teams to facilitate timely loan processing, approval, and closing.
- Resolve customer enquiries and provide a high standard of service throughout the lending process.
- Mentor junior loans officers and provide guidance on credit analysis, lending standards, and best practices.
- Contribute to business development initiatives aimed at achieving lending growth, revenue targets, and client retention.
Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
- Five to ten years’ progressive lending experience in commercial, consumer, or mortgage lending.
- Demonstrated experience managing a diverse loan portfolio, with strong credit analysis, underwriting, and risk assessment capability.
- Sound knowledge of lending regulations, compliance requirements, risk management practices, and loan documentation standards.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, negotiation, decision-making, written communication, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to build and maintain long-term client relationships while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and proficiency in loan origination systems, banking software, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Professional banking, lending, or related financial certifications, as well as previous supervisory or mentoring experience, will be an asset.
