Summary:

Provides direct and indirect patient care in the Emergency Department. Meets the communication needs of the patient/family, departmental staff and medical staff. Complements responsibilities of Nursing Unit Assistant during times of high volume and departmental needs. Assists patients with activities of daily living, provides basic nursing care to non-acutely ill patients and assists in maintenance of a safe and clean environment under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse in charge of the team and/or unit.

Requirements:

Temporary full-time (or part-time) CNA positions for Emergency Department during peak season. Shift hours are variable (day, evening, night) and may be 8-12 hours per day (30-40 hours a week) with timing and shift subject to change based upon unit needs. Some cross training to assist with Nursing Unit Assistant also required. Must be available for weekends and holidays from May through August. After Labor day, some weekdays & alternating weekends until late October may be available. Students currently enrolled in a Nursing program encouraged to apply. (CNA registry & CPR certification required).

Education, Training or Certifications Required:

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Current BLS Provider Status.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant in good standing.

Experience Required:

  • Recent training/experience in medical terminology and/or training/expertise with delivering patient.

Special Requirements:

  • Basic computer skills preferred.

Cognitive Requirements:

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbal and in writing. Additional languages preferred.
  • Ability for high performance under stressful situations. 3. Must be able to prioritize, mult-task and follow through.

Physical Demands:

  • Able to sit, stand and walk for an 8-12 hour shift.
  • Adequate hearing, vision, speech and manual dexterity.
  • General health must be such as to regularly work scheduled hours. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position without compromising patient care.
  • Able to lift 25-50 lbs. (assisting patients in and out of beds, etc.).
